Is it normal not to see a baby sack on the ultrasound while 5 weeks pregnant?

Hi,

I am 5 weeks pregnant and had my first prenatal visit today. I had a Ultrasound done, but the doctor was not able to see the baby/baby's sack. Is this normal? She said it is normal, but then she started asking me if I had any cramping or experiencedany bleeding... I am really nervous now. Any ideas?
