Can I insist on an earlier ultrasound? 7 weeks pregnant.?

I get pretty nervous when I read online about all of the women who have miscarried but don't find out for weeks. I don't know how I could deal with that. I'm 7 weeks along but my OB's normal policy is not to do an ultrasound until 11 weeks. I really want to tell friends and family soon but I'd like to have as much reassurance as possible. Has anyone convinced their OB to check them out sooner than
